I've got a Boss BR-8, Sonar and a Creative Audigy Platinum soundcard. So far so good.
Last week, I got a good handfull of outboard gear, but I don't know the best way to use it. Here's my current setup:
Microphone 1-------------Presonus Blue Tube Pre 1-----patchbay
Microphone 2-------------Presonus Blue Tube Pre 2-----patchbay
PATCHBAY:
Behringer Tube EQ
Behringer Tube Ultrafex
Presonus Blue Max compressor
All this is connected to the BR-8, and no, I don't have a mixer yet.
From the BR-8 I can send to the computer to mix in Sonar.
Here's where I need help. The Behringer stuff is better suited for post production. I know I need a mixer with enough aux sends to make it work traditionally, but I don't know what kind of mixer to get. I don't know of a good way to get the stuff in Sonar back into the outboard gear for mastering either.
Should I get a typical analog mixer such as a Mackie VLZ series or should I hold out for a digital one with motorized faders, automation, etc.?
I really don't want to lose the BR-8 yet because I swap Zip discs with a friend, but I want to be able to use my new gear the way it was intended.
Sorry if this is confusing. Any help is appreciated.
