Hi, im trying to mic my drums with the aim of recording them on my computer, and i don't really know much about it. If i have some dynamic mics for the drums as well as condensers for the overheads, can a get a mixer like the PEAVEY PV14 PA MIXER USB which has a global phantom power supply or will that mean i can only use either the dynamic or condensers at one time:confused:

IT depends on how far you want to excel. If you want to edit each source (microphone) after the drum part is recorded you will need multiple Analog to Digital Inputs (more than two.... usually means eight). If your just trying to get your ideas recorded for practice (non production) then a regular sound card would work in stereo using a mixing board and pre mixing your drum part before it goes in the box.

Get a used Firepod like on ebay or craiglist i got mine for 220$(must be luck)
But its great because it has 8 sources whichs gives you enough to mic a drumset and it also give u flexibility to get a goood sound.

get a M Audio Delta 1010 along with the Peavey PV mixer.

you should be able to use any mic configuration you want.

with the PV mixer USB you will only be able to record on 2 tracks simontaneously with the M Audio 1010 card you will be able to record on 10 tracks simontaneously with the mixer yet you can still be able to use the mixer as a portable rig to record with the USB interface into a laptop for live recordings.
