What is S/PDIF? and how do u use it?

can I hook up the output of my keyboatd to the input of it to record audio? in my new audiophile 2496 it says it has "in/out" s/pdif and they are digital.

Digital is correct.
Your outboard gear will need to have digital outs to use the sp/dif ins on the card.

sp/dif= Sony Philips Digital Interface.
These ports will not recognize analog signals.
