What iMac do I need for home studio???

Home studio:
Logic DAW
Maschine 1.7
Korg DW-8000
Fender/Gibson guitars

I could buy a new iMac 27" for $1500...
But my question is do I really NEED to? I want good performance but do I really need to buy a NEW iMac? What are the minimum specs I would need? Ram, processor speed...etc.
What Mac product do you guys use to control your home studio?

You don't NEED a Mac at all.

I.M.O, you need a quad core processor, and a minimum of 6 GB RAM. What it sits in is a matter of personal preference.

If he wants to keep using logic, then he does need a mac.

OP, the first model with i5 would probably be your best bet. Any of the core2* stuff is starting to show its age now.
