What does off axis mean?

I'm guessing it means "not straight at the source" but I'm not sure.
 
OOOhh I can answer this one. Yes, it means that rather than pointing your mic directly at a sound source, you would angle it slightly.

Uladine, consider buying a book- "Professional Microphone Techniques" by David Miles Huber and Philip Williams. Yeah, I know if you spook around long enough on line, you can learn most of the same stuff (and more), but I think you'll find the included CD invaluable, and it will give you a solid jumping off point to ask better questions, which get better answers. I have found it very useful.-Richie
