Just wondering what recording equipment I would need to record some songs ive wrote. Basically i have a keyboard, bass amp, accoustic and electric guitars. I play all these instruments but have absolutely no experience of recording tracks.

Should I opt for a small recording studio maybe on ebay? What other products do I need?,,,, any advice anyone could give me with as little jargon as possible would be greatly appreciated!!

It's a large subject, and there are virtually a thousand different answers to your questions, paddy.

I suggest that the very first place for you to start is to spend an hour or two at your local library or Border's book store and take a look in their music section at the books on recording. There are a couple of different "Recording for Dummies"books available that are actually a very good place to start (no offense at the titles, I didn't choose 'em; they happen to be good books for beginners to this racket :) .)

it's a big subject. you'll have to learn the jargon. :p

Don't get GAS. That's my one piece of advice for you. You'll thank me later.

studio for songs

my guess would be that you write songs and that you know you are able to record all instruments which makes for a better musician, my first question is do you have mics? do you have a guitar amp?(because if your playing electric guitar through your bass amp the thing is when you record with a electric guitar using a bass amp you'll get these unwanted-frequencies, how much are you spending on the studio because you can either go from $200.00-300.00 by getting a simple Boss 4 track that can easily hook up to almost any household tape player(4 tracks should come with a built-in mic) another thing is that your question " what kind of recording equipment do i need?" well the answer is your typing on it, if you have a computer you have the most important piece so if your gonna buy the option 1 (Boss 4 track) and want to upgrade from there in the future don't buy those 8 track or 16 track consoles if you do your only buying the same gismo-gadget just more built-in tracks. so if your going for option 1 (Boss 4 track)and want to upgrade in the future save your money for something you can hook directly to your computer. let me know how big of a studio your making.
