I love funk and I would love to have some good chord names. Any help constitutues thanks!

the ninth

C ninth

fifth string third fret
fourth string secon
third strin third fret
second string third

this is a mobile chord and can funk up and down the neck with it.

the seventh chord is samr formation except the second string first fret.

Bar the four bottom (as in the highest-pitched notes) strings. I think it's an inverted minor seventh, it sounds 'funky'.

Like so, however high or low you like it:

e|-5-
B|-5-
G|-5-
D|-5-
A|-x-
E|-x-

A couple of others:

e|-5-
B|-6-
G|-5-
D|-5-
A|-x-
E|-x-

e|-6-
B|-6-
G|-5-
D|-5-
A|-x-
E|-x-

13th - isn't that what Prince used in "Kiss"? Try it up high, like 12th fret or so:

14
14
13
12
14
12

You can leave off the 2 low strings, especially if your middle and pinky aren't double-jointed. Interestingly then it lacks a root, you could make an argument for Dmaj11 rather than E13 in that case. Or switch to:

14
14
14
12

For a solid Dmaj7. Add a Ebmin7, as per raped by ape:

11
11
11
11

And pretty soon your records are being played on the Quiet Storm.

I find that playing chords with the open "F" chord shape up on the top few strings can evoke a certain funk. Mainly stuff on the lighter strings, with that kind of stabbing rhythm.

quintessential funk chord: 7#9

C7#9 shown below, if it displays correctly. Move it up an octave for the opening chord to AWB's 'Pick up the pieces"
