i read someone did some time ago. it was a rare thread tho, and no negatives to either.
if i recall correctly, these were the passive models.
seems you can't go wrong with either, some credible posts.

nice review. did read it last week too. but did´nt understand your question right, you now my schoolenglish. !
could get here now 9.2´s for 170 €
in silver. Nice price. Best price until now was 220 € for a pair.
did yesterday read that someone get a pair 9.1 here in germany for 79 €
can´t believe that. he is now mixing with them using an good hi-fi amp.

9.1's look very nice!!
The 9.1 is in the B&W 600 range ~$350US.
I don't like the front ports.(air blows in my face.).
the 601 and 602's are same family but have front bass port...
but the 600 has no front port, smaller+cheaper. B&W are close by and I can listen (and return for free.... if not liked!).

is from the pre-amp circuitry (bass, treble, mids, etc..).
yeah, if you have a "Bypass" switch,
the signal-path of the sound will be the amplifier section only.
SUB WOOFER:
test: move your sub to the Left or Right.
if you can hear it, it is directional!!
so an article says it does matter where you put the sub,
contrary to what many people believe.
Author recommends 2 sub-woofers...
or if only one sub woofer...place in center location between Left and Right.

i have an sherwood av receiver ( RD-6106R ) with "tone direct" button. the best way to compare would be when i get 9.1 or even better 9.2 and do it here in my own room and with my receiver.
don´t know where he did buy 9.1´s for only 79 €.
i have my wharfes close to wall, cause no place. So it would be better to use front ported modells.

I like NO PORTS.
we can buy port plugs- (some kinda of foam)

i think for mixing,
ports offer flabby bass. listen to a 100% sealed enclosure/no port and the bass is tight, because the air in the cabinet helps the coil push the cone faster acting like a "air-spring" for bass response...
on an oscilliscope we see lower freq numbers with a ported cabinet,
but it's flabby bass...boomy... flabby ass fake bass....oscilliscope doesn't have a human ear.
Big flabby ASS is ok for movies...but for music I like a tight ass sound.
go put your ear right by the port hole and then on the cone...
then plug the port-hole and listen, the bass will become "tighter" more detailed...

didn´t thought about this point. Will test it. My Wharfes are between my 19´´ CRT monitor close to the wall. They are reflecting a little bit to the monitor in the middle but i can´t place them wider, cause no place available.
ok i close the ports now with old black socks and the difference is not much but they are not so boomy like before. How is now the frequency response ? Close to wall means normally + 6 db ? now i close the bass port so they have less bass response. How low do they go now ? Do midrange and high-end change too ? couldn´t hear a difference now.
do you use an sub ? i have non !!

I went and listened to some BW600's. They were not much of an upgrade from my 303?
The 601/602's would be great.. but are more $$$. no wharfs or yorks around here.
having some fun playing with the JBL Control 5's. doing a mix and comparing to the 303's. its all personal taste of the ears....
i still like my 303's better i think. the JBL's will be gone/sold by end of week.
so did you compare the 9.1 vs 8.2A yet??? how about the Passive 8.2 and Active 8.2...that would be a good review.
I went and listened to some BW600's. They were not much of an upgrade from my 303?

my plan to make some extra cash selling the JBL's and get the 601's or 602's ain't happening yet. i only paid $125 for the pair, and only have an offer for $150!!
my gut instinct is these are really better monitors (more detailed) than what i have, but i'm not quite into the sound of 'em...
i do plan on building some stands this weekend. of course one could get some Wharfedale Passives for $189 brand new...and those are good enough for Massive's cheap set..which says alot really, beings he could probably buy $200 speakers all day long and has 802's to compare too.

I ordered my 8.2A's this weekend......I figure those are one of the best bang for your buck monitors out there (300 bucks) ???
Regardless, I've not owned a pair of acutal "Monitors" before so this will be a step in the right direction at least.

8.2a's a great bang for the buck it seems,
maybe the BEST bang for the buck in that price range?

but i think the sound coming out of the port is flabby...like a bad sub-woofer...bbmmmbbbbffffffffffllllaaaaaabbbbbb bmmmmfff....not music its just..muffled sht box noise....... just a comment.imo.

I think that's the whole point --- I'm not replacing anything persay, since I've not actually got this whole "Studio" thing off of the ground yet.

Yeah, defiantly Kudos to the Home Recording BB and all it's gearheady type folks!!
I'm sure with out this BB I would have spent countless amounts of cash and ended up with basically crap.
I searched and read these forums for over 2 years before making any purchases.......and even though I've not recorded anything with the new gear yet, I'm confident that I will have everything (mostly anyway) that I will need for a professional sounding/quality recordings........which is the goal right?
I haven't heard anything on my monitors yet.......hopefully soon....
What?, Paneling for the walls isn't good for "acoustics"?........I guess I'll be going down to the local carpet store and getting a bunch of reminents.

The First part of the statement is, but not the second........the part about the carpet. That's about the cheapest way to stop any reflections isn't it? I'm not worried about actually "Sound proofing", just the actual room acoustics themselves.
