I've searched but only found one thread in regards to the 9.1's. I was pretty much set on the 8.2a's, but wanted to explore all of my options.

These would be used for mixing down in a small basement studio with CEP and a Delta 1010.

I'm open to other suggestions as well, but like I said I'm pretty much sold on the 8.2a's if they're still available.

Thanks,
Rick

i will A/B them tomorrow and will tell you my impressions here.

Thanks!

uhm.. ...I've been informed that they are not available in the US yet. :(

Still would like to know how they compare to each other though. :)

i can´t believe that. Really not available there. Did read in german hi-fi forum about them very good things. 9.1 & 9.2 are the general recommandation as budged hi-fi speakers and a lot of people do buy them now. Lot more than the older diamond range. Some user says that they are sounding as the evo range and that between both ranges are not much differences now in sound.

Did talk with the dealer where i will hear them tomorrow about them and he told me that there are by far better than diamond 8´s in a lot of aspects.

That´s a reason why i want to compare them now with my active 8.2´s. It would be better when i could compare 9.2 with 8.2 but he don´t have them there now. Also the quads 11L and 12L which i want to hear also.

Now i only can hear 9.1 but it will help me to make my own opinion about the new diamonds. My english isnt good enough but i will try my best to tell my impressions here tomorrow.

bye

ps:

which amp do you use or want to use if you buy the passive 9.1´s ?

Heck if I know, I was going to get some "Actives" if they're available. :)

I'd really like to stay away from seporates right now, .......keep it simplified as much as possible.

did hear them today but had 2 big problems to do that right.

first i had not enough time and second i did forget my cd´s at home

yes i was shocked when arrived their and recognized this.

What i can say now is that between the 8.2 actives with an harman/cardon preamp and 9.1 with an cheaper pioneer amp are little differences in sound. 9.1 is cleaner and warmer. i cannot say now which one is flatter, but will analize this point with my own cd´s next week.

Result is positive.

werner if you cannot wait go and hear the 8.2 actives. The differences yesterday were little and if you not have an good amp it would be better to go with 8.2 actives.

all i can say now is here in germany that the new diamonds sells more and more. Get more and more very good reviews here in germany too. high-end sound for an very low price. They are build and looking also very good.

so you choose the 8.2 active's over the 9 passive series?

are you going to buy 9 series/model? or will you try the Yorkvilles?

After the listening test yesterday i am not sure coolcat.

will hear the diamond 9.1 and later the 9.2´s too and of course the yorkvillles before i decide.

i did hear my wharfis before with a lot of monitors but not with the yorkvilles. So i don´t now how good the yorkvilles are but i am very sure with the 8.2 actives.

update:

here is an review at hifibitz.co.uk of an 9.1 owner:

steve sinclair
'BRILLIANT'

Strengths:
Seamless and integrated

Weaknesses:
None

Overall:
These speakers won What HiFi Product of the year 2004. Nevertheless I've seen a negative review around the web from someone. I feel I should speak as a REAL owner of these speakers. I auditioned them first and then ran them in with my Musical Fidelty X-80 amp. For a sub 200 quid speaker these are extremely musical. The sound is rich and some may prefer a thinner sound. With a punchy amp these will be hard to beat. Midrange is as good as I've heard. Bass good for a small box. Treble fine. if you like a dry sound these are not for you. If you like a really musical and NATURAL sound then these will please. They were not product of the year for a joke"

I like the look of the 8.2 vs the 9.1

no ofference, but that has to be one of the stupidest things i've ever heard...we're talking about speakers, not a fashion show.

no ofference but that does not make it irrelevant.

if two speakers are equal you will pick the pretty one.

a portion of the recording business is looking good. the artists aren't the only ones that have to be pretty.. a big beautiful studio could easily be chosen over a shack out back.. sometimes even if the shack out back is making better records..

not that i would pick monitors based on looks.. i'm just saying aesthetics aren't completely irrelevant.

(sorry to stray so far off topic) i've been watching this thread. i wish i could get my hands on some of these new wharfedales.

matheon i will hear them next week again and will have more time for that.

they are looking really good. In silver especially - :)

that should be interesting... Wharf Active vs Wharf Passive

sounds like you got a great pair of 8.2A's.

Anyone know any good options for the warfe's 8.2a pro for less than $340? Seems like thte standard rate, wondering if anyone has seen them cheaper anywhere?

Thanks,
Daav
