Man no matter what my vocals aren't coming out clean.

My mic goes into the mixer, then into my digi 002(pro-tools).

What can I do to fix this issue? I'm tired of having my vocals come out distorted.

Sounds like a gain staging problem. How do you have it set up?

My microphone goes into my mixer----> interface(digi 002).

I got the gain in my mixer at 12'o clock. As far as the fader on the channel i put it at whatever i think is a good level. But the times the artist gets loud it gets distorted.

What you want to do is put your main and channel faders on 0 db and then turn up the gain to your operating level. Make sure you have your mic/line/instrument switch on mic and you're using phantom power if it's a condensor mic.

Try using a pop screen on the mic to keep the singer from distorting. Here's a link to build one yourself: http://www.jakeludington.com/project_studio/20050321_build_your_own_microphone_pop_screen.html

If you don't want to do that, then teach the singer some mic techniques. If that doesn't work try riding the channel fader. If that doesn't work then use a compressor on him/her but that's that last option I'd use.
