im D.Iing my guitar amp at the moment (waiting to get something decent to mic it with). the problem i am having is that even with the gain on 0 on the mixer it is reading quite higher than 0- most of the time on the overall output level. do all line channels have a set gain???. im fairly new to using mixers for recording so bear with me.

thanks

What level is the output from your DI box? Line level or mic level? Whatever it is, it should feed into a similar input, ie: mic level input or line level input.
Just cos the plugs fit doesnt mean the levels match.
A line level output into a mic level input is a massive overload.

cheers Tim

make sure you dont light yourself on fire there, bucko. you may blow your soundcard too. unless its a recording out like on the line 6 spider, or maybe a headphone out, you'll overload your soundcard, thats why it sounds like crap

I would focus on your digital levels in the control panel of your AD converter.

Personally, I would always make sure that the analog levels are in order first. If your converter is clipping it is because the input signal is coming in too hot. If you have a converter in which you can lower the amopunt of input it reads, then all you are doing is making sure that the converter is not adding extra distortion to a signal that is already distorted (and not in a good guitar way, but a bad "oh shit, too much for my equipment" way).

Of course, that's a no brainer. Get it close, then fine tune in throught the digital meters.

Sounds like a +4/-10 issue to me.

Like was said earlier, a line signal into a mic input is way too hot.
