I am going to change the neck on my el cheapo strat tonight (and fit it with p-90s)..anybody know how you drill the holes for this???

Get everything lined up perfectly (including any shims which may be needed), and then clamp it all together, and drill your holes. The real shitty part is you have to do it by hand. I have yet to find a drill press which can do it.

Or else, take it to a good repair shop and have it done by someone who has already learned not to make the mistakes you are likely to make.

And make sure you have the shims lined up properly so you don't drill through them. To do the job properly preparation will take longer than the drilling and is more important.

As an afterthought, You can do this two ways, drill completely by hand with the shims in place or make a starter hole with the shims in then remove the neck and do it in a drill press, which is how I would do it, but I have a machine shop to work in, depends on what equipment you have available.
You can also put a very small dab of silicone sealer on the shims to keep them together and in place in the heel pocket when you are lining up. It will peel off later or you can leave it if you are going to drill and screw without cleaning out the dust.

Except the face of the neck is not flat, so drill presses don't work. I have two, believe me, I know.

ok well I did it last night by just holding the neck in place and putting the drill through the body into the neck. I got that fugger on good. not sure what you all mean by "shims" though and if they are necessary or not?
