Hey everyone , Im just new to the forums so I thought the first thing I would do is ask for some advice on a proper recording gig. Ive been recording for about 6 years now , but am actually deciding to get a little serious about my gear . the first thing im doing is putting togethor a new comp which is comprised as follows ;

processor: intel pentium 4 630 3.0 ghzw / 2 mb cache em64t
mobo: asus p5rd1-v w/dual ddr400 , radeon x300 ,pci - express x16
http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/asus_p5rd1-v/3.html
mem : 1 gig kingston pc3200 ddr sdram cas3
fan : vantec stealth fan , 92 mm
hd : seagate 200gb barracuda 7200.8 serial ata w/ncq , 8 mb cache
case : antec sonata II w/450 smartpower 2.0

for my mixer i am using a
soundcraft spirit fx-8
http://www.soundcraft.com/product_sheet.asp?product_id=23

as well im using 2 beheringer autocom pro (mdx 1400)
http://www.djtronix.com/behautpromd.html

for my soundcard im using a creamware scope project platform
http://www.creamware.com/

and my a/d converter is a behringer ada8000
http://www.behringer.com/ADA8000/index.cfm?lang=ENG

for mics im using a seven piece samson piece condensor with 2 overhead
but I have substituted my snare mic with a senheiser and my kick with an AKG d112 http://www.kellyindustries.com/microphones/akg_d112.html

for vocals I use a studio projects c1 condensor
im using a combination of cubase and cakewalk , with a variety of plugins

with all this equipment , is there something I am missing or have overlooked? I dont even want to start on a project untill i know that i have eveything to do what I want without having to run back and forth to the music store. If there is anything that doesnt add up with i went through let me know , it would greatly appreciated.

I imagine those Samson mics are no good... maybe rethink that purchase.

Yeah , it was kinda a rushed purchase to start off , was thinking to go full shure , or full senheiser . The problem is I have two kits to work from , a 1976 ringo star replica set of ludwigs (5 piece , i know the origional only had 4 !!) , and a set of pearl prestige upgraded to a masterwork with the aquisition of an 8" tom (all togethor 8 pieces) .Both sets produce enourmously different sound , considering my ludwig has a 24" kick open face , and the pearls have an 18" closed muffled!! Im not too sure what set of mics to get to get to fully accentuate the quality in both kits

I wouldn't worry too much about drumkit matching. You could spread the love and get a Beyer M201 for snare, Senn MD421s for toms (is that what you got?), Shure SM81s for overheads, and your D112 for kick :)

Or one of many other combos as well. Cloneboy's point is the quality of your gear is much better than Samsons . . .

Here are some "low cost" Drum mic recommendations that are better (IMO) than those Samson sets. ;)

MXL603 or Oktava MK012 for OH
Shure SM57 or Beyer M201 on the snare
D112 or D12 (if you can get one) on the kick

If you close mic the kits, I'd get some Sennheiser 604s or if you've got the budget MD421 on the all the toms.

There are obviously other options (at varying costs) but these should yield acceptable results.

Thanks for all the advice , sure is nice to talk to people that know what they are doing
