Terrible Buzz/White Noise on my Recordings

Hey guys,

Recently, when I've been recording, I've noticed a terrible buzz/white noise under all my recordings, and it's been driving me crazy.

Here's the signal chain:

Source
Mackie 1642 VLZ3 Mixer
Tape Out Cable
1/4 in" female to 1/8" male adapter
MacBook Pro

This happens with all the mics I've tried, as well as direct input from an amp or guitar. Cell phones are always off, and there's no TV or radio in the studio.

I'll post a clip of the noise a little later, but any suggestions?

Have you switched out your cables?

Also, start backwards and unplug things one at a time. If it's coming from noisy equipment in your set up maybe this will help you find it.

Yeah, I switched cables back and forth for a while, but to no avail.

I'll also take your suggestion and do some unplugging. Hopefully that'll help me find the source.

Buy a different sound card... It's the only thing that will help...

Did you try a new 1/4" - 1/8" adapter - those things are usually little pieces of crap.

damn I just fixed some SHSHSHSSSSSSSSSSHhing noise with a cable tonight! damn I'm still amazed at this electronic stuff at times.

a frkn cable! I thought i was getting a part failing for a minute.

try to use a line cable for line and instrument cable for instruments.

you should be able to eliminate the chain of gear and plug straight in, then start adding one piece at a time until the noise appears. might help?

It might be the soundcard, built in soundblasters tend to add nosie, crackles or pops.
