At the higher end(not as high as Bardens though) there are Kinman pickups, great sound no hum. Lindy Fralin is another maker that does good things. You should also check out Rio Grande and Seymour Duncan. All four of these companies make some great pickups.

Don't forget that Fender also makes some after market replacements. Hope this helped. :)

what i was looking for was more of a critique from tele players. Are the high end pickups really worth that much money?
I know the brands that are out there.
Maybe I should check harmonycentrals user reviews? I think I will do that. ;)

I have a set of Bardens in mine and TO ME they are worth every penny. I think the Kinmans are also great. These sound like Tele's but are dead quiet-no 60 cycle hum. If I didn't have the Bardens, I would definitely go for the Kinmans.

I was at HC user reviews reading. I read a couple of reviews on the seymour duncan antiquities and two of the reviewers had replaced two other aftermarket sets with these. Both of them liked the SDs better then the Lindy Fralins and aftermarket fenders and one other brand they mentioned they had replaced.
I will check on the Kinmans SteveK, thanx.
The price locally around here for the antiquities new is around 90 bucks apiece.

i mean : look, i have this cheap ass yamaha 112 fat strat. i replaced the middle pup with a fancy dimarzio stacked bucker (coincidently a tele bridge pup i had lying around). now the dimarzio definately has a very distinctive sound but to say that it sounds better then the stock pups???

i have a '78 mixed tube/ss music man amp which in my opinion really lets you hear how the guitar sounds, a bit like a roland jc does and the dimarzio doesn't stand out, not by 'sound quality', output, noise, ... all three different, all three good.

All great suggestions

You don't say exaclty what kind of sound you want with the new pickups i.e. more bite, cleaner, classic tone?
