TC Electronic G Major and Tube Screamer

i just got my G major today and have it looped thru my efx loops on my Triple Rectifier
i like the tube screamer for just a touch of pizazz..nothing fancy...
ive tried my tube screamer in between guitar and direct into amp and also tried putting it in efx loops after the gmajor

when plugged in between guitar and amp it sounds not bad...when i put it in betweenthe gmajor and the input back into the efx loops it sound like sheeet !...why does it do that?

I think about my effects in the order of their appearance in the chain. Distorted signal bouncing around the room sounds like a great idea to me. A clean(ish) guitar sound bouncing around the room then being distored just doesn't seem right.
 
Probably because it's designed to accept a guitar input and the output a signal to a preamp. When you run it in the effects loop, whether or not you have the G-Major there (which only compounds the situation), you are making it accept a preamp output and then have it send its signal to a power-amp input. Under some circumstances, maybe you can get it to work but it wasn't designed for this signal chain.

Another problem that you will quickly encounter is that small adjustments to the front panel of your amp will have unexpected and counterintuitive results when you kick in distortion on the tube screamer---it may come out saturated and amazingly quiet! Again, that's because the gain structure is all wrong for the input of the tube screamer---or generally any other "floor" pedal. This behavior can seem like nothing to worry about in a rehearsal/studio but end up being embarassing on a live gig.

I have a G-Major and I keep it in the effects loop of my mixer. It is designed for line level signals only. Says so in the manual.

I run +4 line in to it with no probs at all, sounds fantastic.

There is a setting in it for line level at -10 or +4. Check that.
 
Maybe I'm a bit lost or off track. Thought I would just post my set up. Guitar out, screamer (plus some other pedals), guitar input, loop effects out (line level), TC unit, loop effects in, PA out.

IMHo, time based effects sound better when placed in the effects loop. Distortion and sound smooshing stuff sounds better on the input to the amp. Just a generalization but that's what I find usually works.

well ive done sone tinkering and am trying this ...
put my Eurorack MX 802a in efx loop of my Boogie
i have the Major G and Screamer in the loop of my mixer...
i like it, it gives me alot more control of the output including an extra hi mid and low to play with....
