I'm trying to record my Taylor 412E guitar through its built-in pickup system (which would be the ES-Blue system), but I can't seem to get a decent volume out of it. It doesn't come with a volume/bass/tone control on the instrument, so I suppose the gain is at its maximum?

When I try the same equipment and cable with my budget Yamaha that does have volume control on the guitar, I get a decent sound...

Does anyone know what could cause this and how to solve it? Thanks. :)

Connections
The 2007 Taylor ES is designed to be plugged-in
using a standard quarter-inch guitar cable, which
will work in every circumstance: with an acoustic
guitar amplifier, a standard direct box, or any other
guitar-ready application. The ES also is designed to be “Pro Ready,” which means
it can be plugged directly into
a “balanced line level input”
such as an input on a mixer
using a TRS to XLR cable.
The result is a higher signal
level, which translates into
the ability to drive long cable
distances without any frequency
loss, due to the low
impedance of the system.
With this application, you
can plug directly into a stage
snake or recording/mixing
console without the use of a
direct box.
This is from the Taylor manual. I'm not exactly sure if they mean that a direct 1/4" out is less hot than using a balanced XLR or TRS connection. I knoew I used to have a Washburn Acoustic that did the opposite. If I connected an XLR, the preamp was bypassed. Can you try an XLR connection and see if you got a hotter output?
