Hi people,
this is not really a song, just an experiment. I was mucking around with the mics trying to get a good guitar sound. Things were going well so I kept going.

I might spend more time on this depending on feedback or ideas people offer. I know there are some serious timing problems in places that means I'll have to re-record parts if I want to continue... just fishing for inspiration. If anyone fancies coming up with some words or collab in general please pm me.

Look for "Taylor Made"

Cool tunage man....the guit sounds a bit dry but right there...ya know?
I can hear you hummin'/be-boppin along with the guit....
must be a good mic.

Very cool man,
Rock on,
Joe

Thanks joro,
It's interesting you should mention the dry guitar. This guitar recording actually used 3 mics. 2 tiny $2 electret capsules (omni) going through my noisy minidisk preamp (it's a long story) that give me the "room and boom" ......balanced by a centered NTK near the ubiquitous 12th fret minus heaps of bottom end to give me the detail... the amount dryness I suspect is just the balance between the 2 mics (I mean three). In my opinion it's the best guitar sound I've managed yet... but your comment gives me the idea that I should record the NTK on a separate track so I can dial in the amount of dryness later.

ubiquitous , We allowed to use those big words here?

Great sound. Maybe someday my acoustic should sound so sweet.

Thanks Charva ... I use big word AND play drums too ! talk about a paradox ! ;) Glad you like the git, acoustics I've learned are tricky to record.

Really? $2 mics? Damn! with some good mics you'd have a killer sound!

I'd say this song is worth developing. It's got a nice groove, I'd keep it funky. How about adding a Rhodes sound and a sax solo?
Who was going to do the Ray Charles cover? How about a Ray Charles vocal on this one?

listened on bad headphones so i can't comment on the mix/balance/etc. not that my feedback is actually valuable in that regard but.......nice guitar playing! man, i only wish i could play like that. i wouldn't leave the house.

maybe i missed some of your posts in between the mkXXX posts? the guitar was nice on that as well.

twist: Yep $2 mics .. not bad hey electrets are somewhat underrated. Mind you this particular recording would sound pritty bad without the NTK blended in... you need a live space to get the omni's to work by themselves. Rhodes and Sax would be good... know anyone with those who'd care to collaborate ? Thanks for you comments :)

erichenryus: Thanks mate, I'm really not that great on guitar.. but I have fun. Slowly my guitar sound is getting better. Got some diffusors for the studio yesterday that really work well with guitar. Hopefully I'll get a chance to re-record this with them, this should open up the sound a bit.

I'm always up for a collab although it usually takes me a few weeks to get through with anything. PM me if that;s not a problem.

Nice guitar playing and the sound is very good.....I wish I could get mine to sound like that but then, I don't have a Taylor.

Hi Lt. Bob: I was wondering if I'd get a response from you... I think you owe me a collaboration from before I went to Europe ;). I posted More Mk III a week ago... you might want to check it out. Hopefully I'll get round to re-recording this piece in the next few days then I'll pm you... sax would be great in this. So before I launch into re-recording it.. do you have any ideas re structure/words... anything ?... this song is just a piece of clay at the moment ready to be shaped !

That's right, I do owe you a collab.....you're back! Hey, how was the traveling? I'd almost forgotten about that one; I'll try to get on it since you're back around. As for this song, I definitely think sax would work good in it so get with me and we'll figure out what you might want me to do.

Listened to both tunes you had up there. "Taylor made" okay I see you're just working with tones...sounding good so far!

"More Mk lll" yeah I seem to have missed this somewhere down the line. Great tune dude. Got a good voice man and harmonies sounded very good too..enjoyed it!

Lt. Bob: Good to hear from you... I'm really looking forward to getting into some collaboration. I'll pm you soon so we can get started on "More"... and in the meantime it looks like I have some work to do on the current tune ! I intend to do some work on it tonight.

David: Thanks for listening... glad you like the "tone" and "More". Hey if you want to contribute to this current tune just pm me, the more the merrier in my opinion ... don't spose you got a Rhodes keyboard tucked away somewhere ? ;)

o you damn ozzies and your damn NTKs...

...BTW just won an NTK on eBay... ;)

Hey WTF? Why are you asking for help? You're just rubbing this in!! It's like some guy whipping out a VanGogh and asking an art critic if the painting looked "okay"...

Truthfully, this thing is about 95% there... a few little crackles here and there, but this is some FULL sounding trax...

BTW ubiquitous? Damn... that 12th fret gets around :D

really really cool. Not to narrow, not too wide, not too dry...just cool.

Guits are fun, eh?

Very cool! I heard a kid at the end, reminds me of all my recordings. Which mics are those electrets? Good groove, I'd love to put vocals on this.

participant : ... are you serious... Van Gogh ? I'm flattered :) It's just a jam really, not a song... but I was pritty chuffed with the guitar sound.... it's my nemessis. In my opinion the tracks a little too full.... trim it down a bit to make room for sax and keys .. a few words. If you think this is your style pm me and chip in. Hey enjoy your NTK... your gonna love it ! If your buying it second hand though it might be worth checking/replacing the tube (not expensive).

chrisharris : Thanks mate, appreciated. Just right... don't hear that very often !

jake-owa : That's my son (2.5 yrs). I was just jamming so I didn't worry about isolation too much... kinda adds to the "soundscape". Please PM me if you seriously wanna do vocals and we'll get started.

Hi People,
I re-recorded this track... ready for collaboration. It essentially the same thing but slower... with better timing and less cluttered to make room for sax, voice, bass or another lead guitar. OK the reverb might be overkill but that's easy to fix. have a listen...

Sounds cool,great groove!
Nice guitar work, will definitly make a good song.

Looking foward to hearing your collab!

Really enjoyed it,
Pete

Thanks museman ... I managed to really relax on this one and recorded in 2 takes ! Glad you like it. These days I have to be efficient... my spare time is like gold ... having a 2.5 yr old son tends to dictate life a lot.

We'll see about the collaborations. Easy enough to get interest... another thing entirely getting it to happen... takes time.
