I bought this interface about a week ago and now realize that there's only one monitor volume for both the headphones and the audio outputs. So I have to reach around the back of my M-Audio BX5A monitors to turn them down while recording live with a mic. What a pain. Even my old crappy Creative Audigy box had a software feature where you could disable the speakers when you plugged in the headphones, but no such luck with this unit. Wondering what might be an easy fix. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Make a audio disconnect switch for the cables going to the monitors.

Alan.

I'll try that, thanks. I have an old multi in/out rca switch that might work.

Well you can do what I do.I have the outputs and inputs assigned to different channels on my mixer. That way,I have control of what goes to the montors and when.

Thanks. I have an old DOD mixer someone gave me. I'll see if it adds any noise to the signal. I found an old multi in/out switch but it is pretty cheap (Radio Shack) and I don't like the idea of flipping a switch and sending instant hot signal to the drivers (BA-BUMP!). Actually, I am getting used to getting up and just turning them down when I need to. Kinda frustrating that an old Creative Audigy has more usable features than a new Tascam unit. Overall the US-200 is pretty quiet and my recordings sound a lot better, but as I suspected, not very hot when using an SM-57 straight in. And I wish the phones could get louder. It was on sale and I'm used to Cubase so I went for it. Ah well...

interesting post, i was wondering if the outputs were different than the 1641 i just got.
i was having the monitors ran to two separate sets of speakers, one active set and one passive set/w amp....so it sounds like its the same.

i have tried the Pro 40 and a EMU1820 and they both had a software interface that was much more useful for routing and definitely easy to select outputs and monitoring.t want

i was thinking about putting a "mute" switch on the input of the amp.....

anyway..post what you find, if you will I'm curious of a workaround for the monitoring.

The US200 has line outputs 1&2 and 3&4. 1&2 output are controlled by the monitor volume on the unit, 3&4 are not. My solution is simply turning them down with the volume knobs on the back rather than making more connections. I do not want to create any more signal noise with more connections so I'm living with it as is.

The mixer may add some noise, but as you are using it for monitoring, it won't affect the recording. The in/out switch works well too. That's what I use.

You won't get the "BA-BUMP"s with it. That occurs when you either power up the system with the speakers live, or when plug or unplug something with phantom power. A line level signal being switched on and off is fine.
