I am in the research stage prior to a 16 track or higher purchase and just discovered that Tascam has introduced their 2488. Would anyone that has knowledge or experience pertaining to the quality of this unit, please add to this thread? It will help me and others who may be in the same situation. I have been trying to find the wisest choice for a recorder under $1,500. I had an old 388 in the past and appreciated its level of quality at that time. I've also used a Fostex and have considered the VF-160.

Yo Rush:

I just finished reading the SPLASH about the new Tascam 2488 in the latest issue of EM. Looks like a direct competitive model for the Yams: 2816/4416 and 16AW. All of them, good boxes.

I'd check out the specs which I'm doing and I really don't need a new SIAB; however, new/quality always intrigues me.

I'd wait a bit until the evaluations come rolling in.

But, it looks like a good box and I've had two Tascam 488s in the past.

Yo, Green Hornet ... You the man!

Thanks for your reply. I am anticipating reviews and feedback but my creative side is yearning to grab a hold of some equipment and start working.

I spoke with an old friend who had some bad equipment and service issues with the Tascam brand in the past. Fortunately, the 388 I owned worked well for me at the time. From what I also hear, Tascam does not have much of a user support network. Places like this are the life blood of us music afflicted types who have a need for quality equipment and good advice.

Please post feedback on the Tascam 2488 when you have it.

Thanks again.

Yo Greg:

It's a small world. I have an old Navy buddy who lives in Waterford, Me. A much colder place that Grand Rapids, MI. We did gigs together in the Navy booked by Special Services. They check the service records of all incoming/outgoing folks and musicians are often called upon to do gigs. Adak, Alaska was our stage and some stage is is.

I once had a Tascam dual deck cassette box -- every button I pushed made a noise on the tape -- I got rid of it soon but I had good luck with the 488s.

Will post if I learn anything interesting about that new unit.

Keep your snowshoes dry.

Good Box!

Good piece of equipment. It give a extraordinary replay sound. it completely duplicates the sound you put in it. Dont't think you can take it out of the box and just start using it. You DEFINITELY HAVE TO READ THE MANAUL THOROUGHLY BUT IT WILL DO YOU WONDERS!

Dude, you already said that 10 minutes ago. And, in case you misunderstood me.....You're replying to a 3 year old thread...I'm pretty sure he's made his decision already. :p
