Roll roll roll yer boat...

Haha, I stayed up long enough this sunday to hear it! man I had to put my head up aganist the monitor to hear your words...please bring them up and re-post it. I'm pretty deaf so they may not need it but it seemed that way though. I liked this emeric...that damn piano sounds incredible and I know it's the nano piano thinga mujigy, but wow! Lennon's gone, and I think your even better at it.

That's right. Sunday Part X., followed by 60 Minutes.

Wow, very cool stuff. What a surprise hearing that first verse for the first time. Very good stuff. Right vocal around 1:15 should come up a couple notches. Nice. More nice. And yet more nice.
I would experiment with new endings myself, like maybe on a Saturday. Or keep what you have and add some layers. Just a thought. I hear it in my head...

This is a great idea that's worth developing!

very nice...keep it up guys and Ill never buy a commercial CD again.......

God, this is good. I'm not trying to pigeon hole it but man this reminds me of old Super Tramp. Excellent everything (except the fade out:D ).

I wouldn't schedule anything on your Sundays for awhile... just the recording...

interesting take on the hat dance.... but the intro stole the boat!

the piano sounded so great that i was almost a little bummed when it switched over to the organ sound............how did you record the piano part??............yeah, the vocal at 1:15 sounds a little low in comparison to the rest of the mix...........very unique sounding..........nice job

Wow dude, I like this one too! Really really nice arrangement.

The mix was very loud though...like every instrument was LOUD.

I really like the guitar (if that is a guitar)! The piano outro was a bit weird but worked.

Good work!

It's amazing to see you with so many different styles!!! Way cool

AL

I'm not gonna' tell you to turn down some of the instruments, b/c I don't think you even care at this point. LOL. I'm stopping by to tell you that I think what you're putting together here (unintentionally, maybe), is a totally cool concept album. It doesn't matter that there's no central theme (yet)...the theme could be Sunday for all I care. Fucked up timing and all, this is a totally cool listen. The only thing that I'd like better is if the piano at the end would just STOP abruptly, instead of that lame "almost fade" that didn't quite make it. I'm not talking a remix. Just cut the file off at 3:19. I did it, and it sounds kick ass on a loop, which is how I'm listening to this.

Here's my point. This isn't my favorite song in the world, but if you put this together will all the other Sunday Tunes you've done, and the ones that are to come, and throw in a couple of your FULL ON songs, I'd buy it and listen to it like "THE WALL."

bye,
Chris

[edit - whoa...somebody hates you. I gave you 5 Stars and it barely made a dent....Oh well, it matters none, right?...cowardly fuck(s)]

first the song..

I thought this was another excellent piece.. You probably knew that I would be really into this one because of the piano! I really like the entire melody, and the strange changes.. I dont know what you call it, but I like it a lot man.. Reminds me a little bit of Supertramp mixed with the Beatles..

the mix..

I don't like the mix.. The levels are off the chain.. Like Slack said, 'every instrument was LOUD.' The vocals were too low.. Some of those other sounds should really be turned down, and the vocals should come up.. I think this song should have a softer sound to it.. I have no idea how to achieve that, but that's just what I was thinking as I listened to it several times now..

I like it a lot..

I usually don't rate threads, but I must contribute 5 stars to this one..

keep em comin'!

Hey Emeric,
The first half or so of the song kinda reminded me of Styx. This Sunday thing you are doing is a GREAT idea. What a great way to just get spontaneous ideas out there. Very cool man, I wish i had the time to do that. I agree about the solo.... ya need an Emeric lead in this:)

Great stuff Emeric,

g

gotta be a new favorite

Love the pitch shifting... love it...

Wait a minute... I LOVE THE FRIGGIN PITCH SHIFTING :D

Heh... actually have thought about using "chopsticks" in an intro to a new toon... funny idea... cool too... sounds like the demensia in this clinic is rubbing off on ya, and your creativity bounds are stretching.... hold on, that PITCH SHIFTING rocks!!!

Listening on bad spkrs I'd still have to agree the vocal levels are a bit inconsistent... sounds like you captured a good piano performance there in midi, then thru the majic of computers... sped up the bpms :D

A Nanopiano? Should I throw my stuff thru the front window of GC and demand satisfaction like Sam did? :D

Chad

PS: Who's the dork who down-rated the thread?
PPS: Forgot to mention... I loved the pitch shifted stuff :)

This one morphs. One thing it morphs in and out of is mood and approach. This one's different from the other Sunday tunes. This one's got more breadth. Emeric, I've always liked your stuff and admired your arrangements and recording and mixing quality. But this stuff is truly interesting. You ain't gonna score popularity points on this project, but I'm here to encourage you to follow your pig on this one. That arpeggio business you ramp up at the end is wonderful. You're gonna drive drstawl nuts with that stuff.

I don't want to be an audience of one or even an audience of one of a few, but I'm really enjoying this stuff. Does 'breath of fresh air' hold any meaning for you? :)

Oh... I think that hammerhands bit (at 1.00 and 1.30) should come down a bit relative to the vocal.

Okay, I've started to read some other comments in the thread. David's right - the vocal's center, and it should be easier to hear the vocal.

Nice Tune !!

Everything seems a little hot but its been covered and wouldn't be hard to change.

Great job again

See ya next Sunday!

w00f. First time iv'e really been blown away by someones totally unique style on here....

Very very very nice piece of work dude. Listening for the third time now, and I'm gobsmacked as to how good a simple piece tune and arangement can sound......

Love the distorted piano sound at 1:30 (if thats what it is....) you know what it reminds me of?.. a 'disconnected' tone when you leave a phone off the hook....how bizarre is that?...

Agree with the other comments on mix up there ^ vocals could come up quite a bit.

As for timing towards the end, it sounds a little like youv over quantized it whilst speeding the bpm up...(please god dont tell me you played that outright.....)...

Very very cool

Just to add.

Very very cool.

Peace

Nick

ps. 5 stars.

pps... when do we get to hear parts 1-9, 11-12 and 14?... :D

David You're right there is something off with the vocal volume. I kept thinking they were way too loud, so I kept turning them down bit by bit. I was pretty deaf by the time I mixed this, listening fatique takes another toll. Thanks for checking it out!

Thanks Sluice. I wanted the ending to be a bit erratic sounding. Not quite this time challanged, but odd. I hope when I remix it I can improve this.

Appreciate the listen Gidge.

Track Rat - Thanks for comments. The fade is lame, agreed!

mixmkr- Hat dance? I just did a quick internet search to find what you meant. ??? :) Either case, thanks for listen.

powderfinger - The piano is an Alesis Nanopiano. All the sounds on this recording are from it. Versatile POS! heh :) Thanks man.

Appreciate the listen Slackmaster2K. The 'guitar' is a patch on the nanopiano. Not sure what it's supposed to be, but rotating through the dial I liked it. Listening to this now, in the cold light of day I hear what you mean. I was fried by the time I tryed mixing this (excuses). It is a bit messed volume wise, louder is better though right? :) I'll fix it in the mix next time I work on it. It is overbearing for sure. Thanks again.

A1A2: Thanks A1A2. I never thought of this as a different style than my norm, well maybe I did. I try to play different styles, even when it doesn't quite hit the mark. So many little bits in this song that should be so easy to play, for some reason - are not.

Hi chrisharris. The thought has crossed my mind to put all these bits onto a CD. If I can crank out another 6 I may just do that. The reason I'm recording and writing this stuff fast is because I learned that if I let stuff sit too long, get too complicated or If I get too picky I'll never finish anything. So it's an experiment. Interesting you mention 'concept' album. The concept here is not the album, but the way I'm trying to record and write. Sort of a reverse unplugged album if that makes any sense. Thanks for the feedback. Someone hates me? Cool!

Hey B.SABBATH. Yeah I hear what you guys are saying now, today. It is screwed in the level department. Some of the dynamics are there but there are spots that need some work, no question. Supertramp, one of my fav's. Thanks for the comments.

Guernica I don't think I'll add any guitar to this one. The only changes I think I'll make are to retrack the intro piano (maybe the outro). The intro timing just makes me cringe too much. Thanks for listening.

participant: Which pitch shifting do you mean? I do some pitch shifting on the controller keyboard, but then there is a weird, unintentional pitch shift right be for the vocal starts. I don't know what happened there. I was trying to edit that out of time intro piano so it would fade in, but then there was a big gap between it and the start, couldn't figure out how to crossfade the two parts. Rambling. No MIDI on this. All parts are played realtime, line outs, line ins. Glad you like it participant, thanks!

Dobro - No definetly not top 10, or even top 100 on the popularity side. Can't dance to it, well you could at the end maybe... :) Anyway, thanks for the support / encouragement, I'm gonna carry on trying to finish 10 and mix / master burn on a CD and shelf it. Vocal levels are all over the place as usual. :)

jcmm: Thanks, see ya there!

Thanks NickHall.

"Love the distorted piano sound at 1:30 (if thats what it is....) you know what it reminds me of?.. a 'disconnected' tone when you leave a phone off the hook....how bizarre is that?... "

That is bizarre, never occured to me, but you're right it does sound a bit like that!

No Quantizing involved, I played it outright. I can't do MIDI, I find it too time consuming to edit stuff like that. I know some people like it and do amazing things with it, just never got into it. It's the timing at the start that bugs me most, the end can be ecletric. Drives me crazy how something as simple as 4 beats to the bar during that intro, I just can't do it for some reason. I drift all over. But, such is life.

The missing sundays were never recorded. :)

Thanks again Nick.

Too cool!
Your stuff just gets better every week!

I really dig the intro, glad I wasn't standing up with the headphones on,I probably would have tipped over!:D

What really did it for me was the distorted organ at 1:25,brillant!

Piano playing was great,as were the vocals.
The composition was top's.

I dig the outro, kind of the opposite of the intro, cool!

Really enjoyed it,thanks,
Pete

Hey Emeric,

Dug the disonant twist the intro took!!

I think the chording keys could come down a tad and that would give the vox more of a chance of being heard.

I can see this building into a very moody, dramatic and moving piece.

Your playing, vision and execution are all represented with your usual fervor. Wish I could play like that.

Glad I popped in.......

Peace,

theron.
