I know this may sound a little obvious, but thats why I'm in the newbie forum right now. For my mic preamp, I need to convert the 1/4'' line output to go into my sound card. Can I just use the 1/4'' to 1/8'' headphone converter I have? I tried it and it gives me bad feed back. I'm thinking I need a different type of 1/4'' converter, or cable. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The line input on consumer grade cards is usually on a stereo mini (1.5mm) type connector. This means the other end fans out into TWO mono inputs of your choice, in your case, two 1/4" mono connectors. Also make sure you're going into the line input of the card and not the mic input and also make sure that the line input is the only thing enabled in your windows mixer for recording. In your recording software is where you select which of the two inputs will be recorded on what track (left channel to track one, right channel to track two or left and right as a stereo pair to one track).
