It's a good mic but you might want to go to a studio projects c1 for vocals.

i had one a short while.
pleasently surprised with the build quality for so cheap. heavy metal casing etc.

in my small room i believe the LDC mics pickup alot thru the back screen.(problem). I had a CAD that was so frkn noisy it was picking up the damn fan in the attic, thru the vents! serious. The SPB1 wasn't that bad, but it is a LDC and has gain to it.

I had the MXL dual set for $99, forget which model...and that was alright.
the little SDC is great for acoustics, struming.

and i'll will add another positive, the SPB-1 mic sold very quickly when i had a few bucks to buy a more expensive mic.

A really solid all-round mic ... I'm not sure why people here don't think it works for vocals ... I think it's probably not the best for a super-crisp or hyped pop vocal, but it's gently flattering if you want a fairly natural sound (especially for the money).

The only places I'd use one over, say, an AT4050 or a C414 might be guitar cabs or toms, but those are both significantly more expensive mics.

I'd say the B1 and B3 are utterly harmless in the best possible way, and that you will have plenty of use out of one. BUT - if it really is going to be used mainly for vocals, there are one or two other mics out there that may be more flattering for your voice. Consider the SE Electronics SE2200A, Joemeek JM47 and MXL V67G ... for a little more money there's the ADK Vienna and Hamburg and the Studio Projects C1, Røde NT2A and so on.

Do lots of reading so you know what you're buying but pretty much any of these mics will do what you want and the extended higher frequency response will make all of them sound 'better' than your SM58 to you. Don't buy a crap mic - and just about any of the good ones on the market will be fine as your first condenser.

Finally ......................... don't get too hung up on it or you will endanger losing touch with your creative side .................. if you're a musician, you might not want to become an 'engineer'. ;)
