strange 60hz buzz problem

I am experiencing 60hz buzz on a couple different brand high end small diaphragm mics. As I move the cable around the buzz level changes from quiet to loud. Also touching the mic increases the buzz a bit.

I think I may be in a weird RF zone. I don't have any dimmer switches or flourescent lights in my house. Strange thing is is that my other mics do not have this problem, which include a few other small diaphragm mics, LDs, and dynamics.

I brought one to a gig in a different area and there was no buzz problem.

Wonder what it is about these mics that make them susceptible? Do you think using quad cable would solve this problem?

Thanks,
Eric

You could try those RF chokers. Little clips that go on your cables. They reduce RF a little, anyway. Sounds like your problem is bigger than that though.

sounds to me like you have a cable problem. have you tried different cables? it could also be some defective wiring in your mic pre. try isolating your gear from eachother, make sure the metal chassis arent touching or anthing like that.
my first bet is on the a faulty mic cable

Thanks for the suggestions.

RF chokers, hadn't heard of those, good to know of them.

I tried different cables, and different mixers and a mic pre. Strange thing is that my other mics don't have the problem. I think it's the area/house I'm in.
