I just wanted to start a thread where you could give a shout out to your wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend/butler/accountant for putting up with your recording obsession. I'll start: My wife stayed cooped up in our bedroom with our six month old for two and a half hours so that I could finish a vocal track today. Thanks, Sarin!

My girlfriend and I live together and talk about a good sport. Bands come in to record and she chases refreshments for everyone and is the hostess with the mostest. I buy toys and she just ooohs and ahhhs on how cool they are along with me. The only thing she used to complain about was when I'd disappear into the studio for hours on end to to editing so I picked up a laptop. Now we lay in bed, she watchs TV while I tweak with headphones on, she says something and of course I can't hear a word she's saying so I just nod knowingly and bliss is in the household once again. God I love that woman.

My wife (with two years of sound recording education in her schooling) was the one who suggested turning our basement into a studio :) She plans on doing as much recording and mixing as me.

Cheers
Kevin.

I must also give a big "Thank You" to my wife for putting up with my musical...."Obsession"...the new guitars..amps..and now the recording equipment and the building of the studio....a lot of time and money invested and she has just quietly sat buy and let me live out my dream....but she also realizes that if by some miracle from God that I make it big...she will be right there with me reaping the benefits from that also....in the mean time...I just have to keep assuring her that a recording contract is just around the corner...:)...

God Bless!

My girl puts up with a load of rappers in a 2 bedroom apt.
Thanks baby

I caught my wife complaining to MY MOTHER last night about the inevitable studio in the garage expansion.. and the new power amp...mic's....pathbay...

Im so alone...

Id like to also thank my girlfreind for putting up with my shit, the countless nights of commin straight home from work just to pick up the guitar to iron some riffs, thanx Jennifer Michelle Hennricks

Hey Foreverain- your girlfreind bought you a snare drum? Does she have a sister?

Mine bought me a POD. I didn't have the heart to tell her I already had one.

yeah, she does have a sister, but you would probably go to jail. she is only 10. lol trackrat, i will take your extra pod!!!! :)

What does any of this have to do with mixing or mastering?
We're the masters and we mix our body fluids.

She wasn't into it that much, until we had a long night "score" in my studio. Then she looked around, and start thinking "... Honey, don't you think we need more gear here ?". Home studio never felt the same again everafter... ;)

Sorry. Looks like I'm just as lost. I meant "recording techniques".

What does any of this have to do with mixing or mastering?
Nothing, per se, but where else do I put it? I gots to get my props in somewhere.

My newly ex-girlfriend (we broke up 2 days ago) is a video editor. The first time I heard her talking about a signal-to-noise ratio, I wanted to propose immediately :D

Oh well, so much for that idea... :(

Dude, cominginsecond...
The avatar... is that your baby kid ? ...looks so fine & cute. You must've "mastered" beautifull Sharin for "mixing" this cute baby... :D What's her/his name ? Tell her/him Papa James said hellooo :)

I'd like to thank my ex for moving a few states away so I can finally have some peace and quiet. Thank god for caller ID.

I struck gold, and no, she doesn't have a sister, or at least a single one...

Over the years she's gotten me some incredible gear gifts. She knew someone at Eventide, for instance, and scored me a fully loaded Harmonizer for about 1/2 price. When I had an ADAT studio, she bought me a BRC. And there's been more...

We met at a club on New Years Eve when she came up to me after I finished playing and asked if I needed any help wrapping cables!

The cool thing is, she LIKES gear as much as I do, and encourages me to buy more! She's a theatrical director, and uses my studio (for free, of course) for all her sound cues and effects in her shows.

A couple of years ago, after years of not being able to flush the toilet while I'm tracking, etc. she bought a little cottage right on the ocean only 12 miles from my studio. That gave us an excuse to buy a boat. So now, we both have a place to get away from the studio, and i actually have a life outside of music.

In addition, between her and my dog, I think that's half the reason i get repeat business. She's equal parts smart, funny, and statuesque. (That would be the girlfriend, not the dog).
