Hallo everybody,

Whenever I setup my audio gear to have a live performance, I get the feedback sound from the speakers (very noisy sound that keep increasing) and the only ways to reduce it is by lowering down the volume of the speakers as well as playing with the microphones positioning a little bit.

What’s the reason behind this problem? Is there a way to avoid it? Any suggestions?

Regards,

MMJ

Hey, mjamed.

Feedback happens when the mic hears the speaker loudly enough to increase the sound at the speaker. You fixed it correctly; you try to interupt their conversation, usually by moving things around a little bit. Typically it happens at certain frequencies, so you can reduce it by eqing thus freqs down a bit.

It's a normal phenomenon that can easily be worked around.

It's the same phenomenon that occurs when you hook a video camera up to a tv and then point it directly at the screen. It's nothing specific to your system, it can happen with any gear.

Like Apl said, you can usually eradicate feedback by repositioning your speakers and microphones. I always try to have the speakers in front of the mics, and when that is not possible I at least make sure the mics are pointing away from the speakers.

You can also play with the ratio of input gain on the mics to output gain on the speakers. Turning up the master while turning down the input will usually help without lowering your overall volume.
