So... I have a pair of Yamaha NS10ms....

now I'm thinking about buying some other speakers as a second pair, maybe for more detail, but most def. for more bass-extension.

I was wondering... for a 40-50 square feet room... what size woofer should I be looking at? Since bigger speakers (8 inch woofer) seem to be quite more expensive...

thanks

Hey, Bear!

He has NS10's!

*moves away as Bear prepares to strike*

:D

Aside from what I think about NS10's...

Are you really in a 40-50 square foot room?

Seriously! That's 5 by 10? 8 by 6?? 7 by 7??? In any case, it's tiny!

it was late last night... let me see

*surfs to a metric conversion site*

yeah... no...well... I guess it would be 50-60 feet.

I'm a college student looking for a room...
Not somebody building a commercial studio...

that's why the room is going to be quite small :)

so... any suggestions regarding my question?

Thanks guys.

You could probably get away without going to 8 inch speakers. The room is too small to get any real bass to happen anyway. Just about anything will be a step up from the NS-10s.

What ever you decide to go with, if you can get a mix to sound good in both sets of speakers, the mix is good.

ok, because anything smaller than 8" will give me more options...
Still..bass extension is my main concern over detail..so I still need enough of that...so...should I be looking at 6"s or what?

thnx

(please don't make this a discussion on ns10s..thanks)

If you really need to hear stuff down around 30hz and 40hz, i would be looking at subwoofers.

I really have no idea what you can get away with. You need to look at the specs on the monitors that you are looking at. Some monitors with 6 inch speakers will have more low end than some with 8 inch. All opf that will be complicated by the size of your room. A 60hz wave is something like 25 feet long (i didn't do the math, but I know it's about there) so half of that is 12 feet. If you don't have enough room for the wave to develop, you will have a hard time hearing it. The way around this is to have enough power to vibrate the surroundings so you feel the low end.

vibrating the place won't be a good idea :D I don't wanna get thrown out the first week...

I've heard some negative stuff about subs, too...

I'll look into various models..thanks :)

Jeez, and here I thought I was all alone in my belief that NS10s were the worst product to come out of Japan since the Sony Elcasette. :D

ooooh turns out I can get a pair of powered 20/20s for 400 too....seen them in a couple of hip hop studios..niiiice :D

I had the 20/20 bas for a while, they had more low end than what you have now.
