I'm a noob to these forums but not a noob to home recording.
My guitarist bought a behringer ddx3216 and Alesis hard drive recorder many years ago before I knew him and I want to upgrade his studio with a spare PC I have.

Question -
Will this mixer interface with a PC running SONAR, what interface will I need and how many channels can I record to SONAR at the same time?
The mixer might not be used after the wav's are on the PC but can this mixer/PC combo interface when mixing down?

Thanks

PS - the mixer has been repaired twice so theres no need for Behringer bashing.

The number of channels that you can record simultaneously depends on the interface you would get. Check out www.m-audio.com for some interfaces. Many people on here like and use these interfaces. I would take a look at the Delta 1010, a lot of people like that model.

Also, yes you can use the mixer as a control surface to control the faders, panning etc in Sonar - you just need to hook it up via a MIDI interface - if you go for the 1010, it's got MIDI built into the card as well.

why go for the 1010 when the mixer has optional adat slots? get one of these 2 i/o cards, and a 2 i/o adat interface, such as this. But search around for something cheaper. I'm sure there will be.

That's exactly the same card (RME DIGI9636) I use in my PC and I also use a DDX3216 with optional ADAT card fitted.

You can record up to 16 channels at once.

You can either just use the DDX3216 as an A/D converter where the signal is sent straight from the preamp (or line level input) to the ADAT card in which case all on board effects and faders are bypassed or you can route the signal through the effects busses and use main faders to adjust level. I find using the former method better and just set the trim to suit the incoming signal and then mix "in the box" using Sonar 5.

aardvark5, if you need further help with settings/advice then please don't hesitate to ask...

Your last post was about 5 years ago! Chances are you may not be on this forum anymore.. but just in case you are, I suppose I could use some very basic guidance on using MIDI with the DDX3216.

I plan to hook up the DDX3216 to a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 via ADAT. But would also like to use it as a control surface. Am using Ableton Live 6.0, and have no clue about syncing the faders of my DDX3216 with Ableton. Would be highly grateful if you guys could provide any starting point to this end.

I have used MIDI to create music before, using my Line6 KB37, but again, have never used the knobs and buttons on that either, so as far as control surfaces go, I'm an absolute noob.

Thanks.
