Two days ago I started collecting info on how to record my guitar into my pc.
I learned that a guitar output is high impedence so it need as DI box to turn it to low impedence and a pre mic amp to put it the signal in the line level ready to connect to a pc.
The other way is to mic the amp, using a preamp to increase the mic signal and use a mixer or DI box to connect to the pc.

I wish to know:

- If the above is correct.
- Connecting an amp directly to a pc damages the sound card, why and is there someway to do it?
- The mixer and DI box after the preamp is for impedence also?

Thanks in advance,
Hugo Carmona

Yes, except for the last part (see below)

You can connect an amp directly if there is a line level output. The powered (speaker) output is for connecting to speakers or some DI's that are made to handle a powered signal.

You don't need a DI or mixer after the preamp. The preamp sends out a line level signal that will go directly into a sound card or recorder. Some people use a mixer after the preamp so they can have more elaborate monitor mixes while tracking or just to avoid the hassles of repatching the cables into the soundcard without buying a patch bay.

Thank you very much.

Any DI boxes and preamps that you recomend?

Thanks in advance,
