I just picked one up on sale and i hav'nt opened it yet but a mate told me they are very average.

I performed a search and although there has been a lot of posts about this mic no one has commented on how it sounds.

I'm thinking of taking it back and upgrading to a ATM 25.

Any comment appreciated.

Well, I've never heard the Shure PG52 before... but, the PG series is Shures cheaper line of mic's. I have an ATM25 and it's a nice kick and floor tom type mic.

I'm suprised more people have'nt heard this mic, perhaps the PG series isn't so popular over in the US as in Australia. (or the real thing is so cheap you dont bother).

Thanks F_cksia for the headsup i think i'll exchange it.

Bit of a impulse buy really 35% off RRP so i though mmm yeah cant be that bad, but then i thought why are they throwing in a cheap XLR lead with it?? just did'nt feel right.

well.. actually I was just kinda in a fcked up mood when I wrote that; they really ain't that bad, but;

-You'll need a lot of eq'ing en compressing to tame this mic.
-You won't be able to geat a REAL fat sound or a REAL click out of it.
-The thing is not very solid, rather fragile; the inner stuff has broken from the outside so that is rambles when you shake it, not very good for the sound, but before it wasn't much better.

Actually those PG's are more designed for live-situations, really.

about PG's..

The I own a PG kit, and I prefer them on toms than my SM57s. But I dont like the PG52 on the kick, so I tried it on the floor tom and...woooooo!! hehe kick a*s!
So I use my e602 on kick, PG56 on rack toms, and the PG52 on the floor.
