Hello all. I posted this on another forum as well, so forgive me if you run across it twice. I had a friend give me a bunch of his patch cords and what nots from when he played guitar. Included in all this stuff is a microphone from shure...Shure prologue 16L. Does anyone know about this mic? I went to Shures website, and they have prologue mics in the discontinued section, but not a 16L and the pictures are not even close. It is a LO Z condenser mic, and it takes a battery. Is this a good find or so much junk?

Thanks all!

Well, it's not total junk. The Prologues were Shure's entry level mics. I have one in THE BIG BOX O' SHIT somewhere in the basement. I haven't used it in at least 8 years.

Look at the mics on a cash register at the grocery store. You'll notice that they look like a prologue with a button. If that tells you the quality of the mic.

"If that tells you the quality of the mic."

It doesn't.You don't judge a mic by what it looks like, and anyway I've never seen a mic in a grocery store that looks anything like a Prologue 16L.
The 16L is a low-budget version of an SM-94.It's said to be equivalent to,and was superseded by,the BG 4.0 and BG 4.1.
Going to the FAQ at Shure's website and doing a search for these models will get you more info.
It's a not-bad sounding small condenser mic.According to Shure's FAQ,the difference in these cheaper mics is that they're noisier, and in some cases can't handle the same SPL's as their better condensers.
The plethora of low-cost condensers has pretty much knocked the cheaper Shures, etc, out of the box.But that doesn't mean you can't get some use out of it.
