Shure 58

Just bought my first dynamic mic, a used Shure 58 (not the beta version). Compare it to my large/small condensers, this one is certainly alot quieter, and noiser. Is this normal?

It's surely got a character that I can use on alot of the applications, but then I wanna make sure its noise isn't ruining my recordings.

I am using a Jomeek VC6Q and a Mackie VLZ as preamps at the moment.

Al, between your two pre's, I've had better luck "matching" my Shure SM57 with the Meek's pre.

I left an interesting question about enhancing budget pre's/mixers like the Mackie with dynamic microphones over at a pro BBS. If the theory behind it is confirmed, will report back on this forum for our members benefit.
