what is the right way to disconnect your condenser. Ive read that you can damage them by unhooking them while theyre powered up. ....Im assuming that you just shut off phantom power before detaching from cable .....right?

...sorry bout that question... ...I just wanted to know for sure:)

Power down the preamp and let it discharge, then unhook the mic.

On my board it is a huge pain to turn off the Phantom power and I haven't had any issues with plugging/unplugging while it is on. I think that concern is a carryover from tube mics that use their own power supply.

I have bit different question! When I power down my mixer I have always just left the phantom power on. So when I power up the phantom power is already on and them mic is always hooked up. Will this damage the mic over time? I haven't had any problems yet.

i plug in my mic before i turn the phantom power on but i unplug the mic before i cut the phantom power off......i was told to do it this way because its not good to turn the phantom power on or off while the mic is plugged in......

it hasnt killed a mic yet....am i doing it wrong?.......

Unplugging a condenser microphone within 60 seconds of the phantom power draining, was grounds for being "sacked" as an engineering assistant or intern in the British studios for many years, especially in the 50's/60's. (really)

It's best to wait a few minutes, otherwise you could suffer a penalty for "early withdrawal".:)
