I think the book, Recording for Dummies to be a very good starting point. Will get you up to speed in a very fast time frame. I am sure there are better books, but none that I know first hand. Everything in the book can be found on the web or on here with some searching. But it really is worth $20 and will get you where you want to be within a few weeks. Comes in hard copy or e-book.
