Rode NT2 Discontinued?

A friend told me the other day that Rode were discontinuing their NT2. Has anyone heard the same?

I have 1 x NT2 and I'd like another (stereo MS technique + O/H etc)...maybe I need to act soon - some dealers in Australia have told me that they still have some in stock but they're not sure about the future of the mic.

I called Rode and they told me that new mics were due for release in August but they couldn't tell me anything different at this stage - selling as per normal. You see, an NT2 is not really in my budget right at this moment unless I really stretch...please let me know if you've heard anything about this....thank you

I'd ask your friend where he got his information from and maybe you can find out more from him. And please post what you find out on this mic forum. Thanks.

A few months ago EQ mag mentioned something about a Rode NT2000 mic that had variable patterns, pads and filters but I haven't heard anything since...? Could this possibly be the 'replacement' for the NT2? Isn't the NT2 one of Rodes most successful mics? Do you now how long it has been around for?

I think the mag also mentioned something about a multi pattern version of the NTK as well? I don't have the mag anymore - can anyone else verify this please - does anyone else read EQ?

If you want the NT2, go get a behringer B2, its the exact same mic.

Darrin,

Rumours to that effect have abounded for some time.................do we know of anyone who has done an in depth comparison of the NT2 and B2 so the rumours can be either confirmed or quashed once and for all.

Very good point. My gut feeling says their not the same mic. But I too would like to know who has A/Bed them and what the results were?

I'd be more interested in someone who has compared the internals:) .

But...the Behringer B2 doesn't have a figure 8 pattern?

Oh...huh. I've never seen/heard the B2 Pro myself. Well, not that I've seen or heard any Behringer mics, actually...

AHHH, you're right about the NT2 not having fig-8. Can't believe I forgot that...

In China they actually sell some fake Rode NT2s with the Behringer internals! Same body - but dodgy Behringer internals - ie. crooked, hand soldering (resistors crimped crookedly), lower quality components...just general all round low quality, cheap, noisy, nasty rip offs! The difference in sound and from looking at the internals is huge. Everyone would (well, should, very easily) pick the difference in a blind listening test.

Not sure if the B2 uses the same components as the NT2 copy...but you would be led to believe so...

Glawf,

This is not referring to deliberate copies.

There have been strong indications in the past that at least some genuine NT2 mics were totally manufactured in China, not here in Oz as we're led to believe, and there have been claims that the Behri B2 is exactly the same mic.

I will continue to have an open mind about it until someone has done a total "in depth" comparison.

Aus, are you trying to say that Rode has led us to believe that some genuine NT2s were made in China? Why would they do that and why would they mislead us? What would they have to gain out of that? What 'indications'?

I've been to China and I have listened to a B2, a genuine NT2 and a fake or copy NT2. The fake NT2 and the B2 almost exactly the same - noisy, harsh top end - the genuine NT2 sounded far superior - quiter, smoother top end.

The fake NT2s actually have the Behringer PCBs inside them with the word 'Behringer' on them. I don't know why or how Rode lets them get away with it. If the NT2 has indeed been discontinued, then I suppose they don't need to be concerned about this anyway.

I usually stay out of the berry posts but I have to answer this one.

The internal construction of both the berry B1 & B2 is actually very good with NO crappy soldering etc.
The general construction of berry gear I find is also very good and in some cases ie. the DDx3216 digi mixer as good as it gets.

If pepes are gunna slag off gear, at least get the facts right not just embark on a series of chinese whispers (no pun intended)
