My band started recording today. We miked up our drum kit and the mikes went into amps and then into our mixer that it connected to our mini disc player. When we are doing it we fiddle about with the knobs for a good sound. But when we actually record it, the settings are all different then we heard through our head phones and for some reason, even when our amps are turned up full blast and the gain etc is all the way up, the recording is really really quite.

Please help.

i understand your problem but you are going to have to get way more specific about the entire signal chain (amp to tape/daw whatever)
to get any clear answers

make sure you have a good signal going into the minidisk recorder is there a vu on it ?
