Yep. Typically I will use a scratch drum track by picking a simple EZD beat that I feel matches what I will need for the song. I'll play along with it a few times to get the intial tempo (bpm) figured out, then record a scratch rhythm guitar (or piano) part to the scratch drum part. This will let me set markers for the various song sections. I may vary the beat a little for the chorus, lead-in, bridge, outro or lead parts (or none). I change the scratch drum track tempo in the places I think should have it, mute the original guitar scratch track and record another one. If I got the tempos right, that scratch guitar track may end up in the final mix. If not, adjust and do it again. Typically I don't start doing the real EZD track until I have the basic rhythm tracks done (guitar, keys), then I'll get the drum track close to final and add the bass track(s).
