I'm trying to record my Randall RG50TC tube combo direct. I have an FX loop on the back of the amp along with speaker outs. I have no line out option on this amp.

Can I use the speaker outs to a DI box and get a good sound? If so, what DI box would you recommend?

How can I get the sound of this amp directly into the recorder without mic'ing the amp and still get a good sound?

Thanks for the help...

I'm pretty sure the answer is no. The speaker output would be way too hot!

If you want to go direct using that setup, your only option would be the FX loop out.

you cannot use a normal DI type box with the Speaker output.

One device a HotPlate has a Line out, but then you'll need a Cab/Speaker Convolution type plugin.

Some DI boxes frighteningly do have a -40 or so pad on them for doing that.

AFAIK you should still be loading the amp, I dont understand how they dont expect the amp to explode when doing this.

As an experiment I was able to run a soldano head (with a load still) into a DI this way and then applied a convolution reverb with a speaker impulse loaded and got a decent sound

that avelon DI allows you to take the speaker out. expensive box.
