Recording Drums with Mic Pre's and/ or Mixers???

I'll start out by saying that I'm not a drummer, and I pretty new to PC based recording....:o

I'm using a Delta 10/10 (Or will be when I get it all hooked up. :) ) , and I have 2 or 3 preamps - SP VTB-1, and a DMP-3.

Mics that I have:

SP C1 & B3
Shure Beta 57 & 58, SM 57
(2) Senn. e609 originals.

I have access to a couple of different drum kits, all of which are middle of the road.

I guess my question is this: Since I only have 3 preamps, what would be the best way to go about recording drums with the gear that I have???

Should I get a small mixer and use it in combination with the preamps? (I think the Yamaha 4 channels are only about 100 bucks.)

I could maybe afford to get another mic or two if it was deemed nesiscary (100- 150 bucks??)

Any input would be greatly apprecieated!!

With 3 pre amps the drum set COULD be miced, but 5 would be really nice at least. You can go to most stores, like i did, and pick up a Berringer EURORACK UB 502 3-track mixer. WIth that you could easily and properly mic a drumset. And they only cost about 55$.
 
I'm guessing that the downside to recording the drums with a mixer is that you will not be able to change anything about the recording....or more specifically....raising or lowering the level of say the bass drum, or the snare. It would have to be dialed in from the get go.
 
If you use a mixer with inserts you could use it's preamps and bypass the channel strip (eq, fader etc..).
