Here is the gear

Bass Guitar
DBX 166XL Compressor
Tech 21 Sans Amp DI Box
Presonus Firepod Preamp/Interface

What is the proper order?

You don't need a DI with the Firepod, the first two preamps should have instrument level inputs (I know the Firestudio does).

Do you really want to use the compressor, or do you want to wait until after you have recorded to put it in post. If its part of your sound, then Bass->Compressor->Firepod. If not, then remove the compressor.

Depends on sound, but I'd use the SansAmp over the pres on the Presonus any day!

he doesn't NEED the sansamp in there, but it's much more than just a DI...

i would try bass-->sansamp-->comp-->firepod first...then maybe give it a whirl without the comp, and see which you like more

The comp shouldn't be in the chain really - not recording into a comp. The sans amp will deal with some of the compression issues anyway.
I'd try bass -> Firepod 1st and see how you feel about the sound you get.
If you don't like the results then pop the sans in between & dial up the tone that's closest to what you're after.
