P.S. I've got 2 joe meek vc3q's

I refer you to "The Thread" on microphone choice, application, and placement. It can be found on the second page of this very forum at the moment, thanks to a recent bump. :)

I know you probably want a straightforward answer (and there really is one in that thread), but you would do yourself a HUGE favor by reading all of it, beginning to end. There have been some compilations into word document and .pdf formats, but I don't have handy links to those. Perhaps someone else can dig those up.

Wouldn't you rather know why you should place a certain mic in a certain position for a certain instrument, instead of just knowing where to place it for your one particular question? Sure you do. Only takes a couple of hours, and you'll be years more knowledgeable when you are done.

I like the 603 around the 9th fret about 12" away--either pointing right at the fingerboard or pointing down at if from above. Try the C3 in omni near the bout/bridge about 12" away. It will pick up a good woody bass sound without being boomy. Or try it over the right shoulder, again in omni, about 12" away pointing down toward the bout/bridge. Both of these combos have worked well for me when stereo recording. The omni mic I use is the ECM8000, but I bet the C3 sounds even better.
