Recommendations for a PA system.

I volunteer for an anime convention. We're looking to purchase a PA system for our main programming room.

Our budget is $500-$1000 for the core system (amplifier, mixer, and speaker).

The dimensions of the room are 38' x 72' (2,736 sq ft) with HIGH (probably close to 40 or 50') ceilings.

Any recommendations?

I'm with apl. My live rig is bigger than you'd need, but the speakers are all Carvin. 4 mains, 4 subs & 4 monitors. All powered. Never had a problem with them, and they sound great.
