Re-starting to record

2 years ago I regulary recorded my bands pretty appalling music using a win98 box, a shitty yamaha effects unit, a soundlaster 16 and a bunch of other twoddle.

I'm now interested in restarting, however all equipment is ancient, and I'm looking for some advice on:

A sound card
An effects unit
sampling software

I would greatly appreciate any input.

You'd likely have better luck if you posted this in one of the recording forums.

But if you're just starting out and if you're on a PC I'd say give Guitar Tracks a try and an Ensonic sound card.

If you're on a MAC, I'm sure someone will be along that can help you out.
