Sorry. Still trying to finish CD. I posted this not too long ago. I took your suggestions, and I got some cool help from Sigma9 and Barometer. Basically, it's the same tune, with some lead work and light percussion. The percussion is supposed to be subtle.

Oh yeah ... the added subtlety really has paid off. I think the percussion on this is helping to bring it to life!

Your vocals are excellent! This is really a beautiful song!

The mix sounds good over here. It sounds full. I like the arrangement. I think keeping it soft and subtle is just what this tune needs (nothing too heavy) ... in fact, the electric that comes in at the end almost sounds too heavy to me (my not so important opinion of course) ... it sounds like a mandolin solo right there would be really cool ... just hearing this in my head...but you'll probably keep the electric, and it still sounds good, just my nit-picking

Keep us posted on that CD ... would like to get a copy!

crawdad ought to love these up front vocals.. me too.

I liked this tune... I remember the linerarity (sp?) of it...and I think it's been improved.

the bongos ....are ok...just ok (sorry barom.) they sound kinda misplaced, just added on, and tuned too high to help the mix out. Kinda like Maynerd G Krebbs off to the side jammin' away (for those that remember Maynerd).

gotta love the vocals.

I dunno.. I didn't mind the percussion, although it did have fairly odd, or maybe mundane placement... but I found that lead guitar sound to be quite annoying... (emphasis on the "quite" ) It wasn't the playing.. it was the actual effect on the guiat. Very "not good".

I thought this was a great song when I first heard it... I wouldn't clutter it up too much. That's my only advice.

oh yeah.. or, of course, you can just let your daughter sing it... that would make it all better...

No apologies necessary mixmkr, I'm actually not crazy 'bout the conga myself. I didn't even think to retune the drum, you've helped me out there. This part just kind of happened as an afterthought and we are talking now about a few retakes from me. Thanks for the help, seriously. I think that will work

...and yes, Maynard G. Krebs from Dobie Gillis. I loved that show, for real, and our good friend who we call Bubba Maynard looks just like him (Gilligan with a gote)

nice song......great singing.....i really like the percussion.......the only thing i would complain about is the lead guitar tone at about 1:30 and coming in again at 3:25........it's not what's played, but more the tone........it has a very 'amp sim' tone rather than amp tone....i'm not sure how it was recorded (real amp or sim), but it just sounds kind of cheap compared to the rest of the song....what about a nice D harmonica in those parts?...i don't know........great song

right in the intro, I was SURE that was a saxophone for about 1/10th of a second... it was Sigma9 ... interesting additions...

This is probably one of your better mixes/productions, chris...

Agreeing with the others... the notes the lead guit PLAYS are good... it's just a bit too bright... dulling those piercing highs on the lead guit track by about 2db would settle it down a bit imhop. (The distortion might be about 3-4 db too loud on it, and that's what's causing the "metallic" tone...)

With that in mind, imhop, it would make a decent mix for a mastering eng. to mess with... for a DIY CD production... it would work...

You could give it a go as-is... since it could be argued (you LAWYER, you ) that these complaints are preference-related...

Haven't read any other comments and I'm coming at this cold since I haven't heard the previous mixes.

No glaring problems that would show through at 128kbps, that I could tell. Not fond of the lead fuzz-tone, but that's a just taste. The vocals are solid, as I expected from what I've heard of your stuff, and the instrumentation was cool and subtle.

Still a great tune.I think the lead guitar is a little tamer than the first mix you let me hear of this isnt it?I dont really mind the lead guitar tone.....I guess some people dont like that singing fuzz tone...sounds kinda like the lead guitar tone on Bob Seger's "Main Street" to me.

You did a good job of not letting the lead guitar overpower this already good tune.I was wondering if this was gonna be the mix I listened to a week ago with sigma9 wailing away through the whole song.LOL.

I like the percussion stuff too.It's subtle but works.

Nice vocals on this Chris, and a great song as well. I was diggin the congas, thought they added a nice touch. Like Kramer said, the lead kind of had that "Main Street" tone to it...and thats cool. Great song...me likey

Hey Chris,
I really like this song. VERY well written and heartfelt. ...and your vocs in this are just perfect. Ive listened to this alot since downloading it when you posted it last time. I stand by what i said then..... .....this is a big wad of dough if it ever gets exposed to the right folks. I like the fuzz tone, playing and sound-wise. I do agree that smoothing it out by trimming some highs might let it flow a little easier. Im not totally sure that it is conducive to the best direction for the song, ..... ....but then again, thats just interpretation. I like the added perc. too, especially in the latter part of the song.

Hmmmm.... the shaker worked, the tambourine worked, but the conga/bongo didn't.

I would have liked the lead guitar.... had it been a dobro, pedal steel, clean tele, country strat, or maybe even a weissenborn. The tone just did not mesh. Sigma9 definitely can definitely play and his arrangements were pretty nice.. just not the tone. 80's hairband and Austin City Limits?... I don't know.

This song almost makes me cry everytime I hear it.. but with the additions, it just made me raise my brow.

Speaking of hair bands... Chris, your voice sort of reminds of the dude from White Lion. Especially during the line "and I'm able to do it..." anywho, just an inconsequential observation.. carry on.
