Hi,

At the moment i am using Cubasis VST, which is the little brother to Cubase-the full blown version. I am considering a different sequencer and need something relatively inexpensive, but versatile. What do i mean by versatile? I mean MIDI, Audio and the ability to cut out a particular portion of a track in audio and be able to process it with an effect(i am not able to do this in Cubasis). For example let say you have a guitar track and you have the whole track processed using distortion, but lets say you decide to take just the first three notes in the track and add delay.(You can't do this with Cubasis and this is exactly what i need to do) Does N-Tracks allow you to do this? Also, does it allow you to change volumes to just portions of a track right in the arrangement window? I recall Cakewalk Guitar Tracks(a very simple program allowing for this). Unfortunately it does not have MIDI. Thanks in advance.

Yes, n-Track supports automation. The easiest way to go about it is to draw "envelopes"...you can draw volume, plan, and auxillery send envelopes.

Slackmaster 2000

As Slack said, you can do it with N-track. It's very easy and precise. And you can zoom in on the wav file to your heart's content and add it exactly where you want it.

What type of MIDI work are you doing....N-Track isnt exactly the fullest featured MIDI sequencer....i usually do MIDI in Digital Orchestrator Plus and import it into N-Track....

COOL

Thanks Everyone!

Gidge: I didn't know there were different types of MIDI sequencers. Let me describe my simple setup and
then maybe you can tell me if N-track will do it. I am using the Alesis Nanosynth for all my MIDI sounds and instruments. Essentially i laydown a bass track, 2 or 3 synthpad voices on different tracks, maybe a flute or sax on another track. Once i have things the way i like it-i turn the MIDI into a .WAV file and mix everything down with my AUDIO stuff. Hopefully, N-tracks includes a MIDI mixer that works. Would anyone happen to know if there is a good description of N-track products somewhere on the web? Thanks again everyone-this has been a lot of help.

Gidge, when you import a MIDI file to NTracks do you get the drum instruments (ie hihats, snare, kick and toms) as separate MIDI tracks ? Were you able to solo or mute any of the drum instrument tracks ? I find that I cannot just have one drum instrument during playback ? Either all the drum instruments comes out or none. What is happening ?
