I'm looking to buy a multi effects unit for personal use at home. Right now I'm looking at the V-amp 2 and the PX4.

I mostly just want something to play with and experiment with when learning how to play. I thought about getting a GFX8 by Zoom but ruled out cauls it's too large when setting in my living room picking my guitar. I want something kinda small.

Basically I just want to know what you would get and why? And if you would get something different.

I'll appreciate all answers both good and bad. And will there be a POD 3 soon?

Thanks

Dave

I have a PX3. It's nifty and convenient for practicing, but DAMN. The rhythm drum and bass tones are horrible. They are so cheeze city, the it's almost difficult to practice with them. The basic guitar tones are also of low quality.

The PX3 has a lot of doodads, but the sound quality isn't great. The PX4 may sound better.

I also have a RP100. The tones are better and the rhythm drums are much better. However, there is no bass for practicing in certain keys over certain progressions.

A great practice tool is a SansAmp GT2 into a Boss Dr. Rhythm. Stellar guitar tones and great drums, bass, and even other programmable backing instruments. No effects on the GT2, just great tone.

All IMHO.

No comments on the V-Amp.

I'll also echo Lopp's method, although I used a Sansamp Classic into my Boss DR-5. However, if you're relatively new, you could get by with anything into the DR-5. It is an excellent practice and arranging tool. Hell, I even did a full string arrangement on the damn thing. I rarely used it as a drum machine other than practice and as a click track.

The good theing about the V-amp is that you can download almost any song sound from the internet!!

i found this awesome one for RATM it felt like i could actually play guitar!!

the sounds are all good on the V-amp and you can record direct to your computer through that because you can choose what sort of amp sound you want. its pretty amazing stuff.

iv never used the PX4.

Peace

j station

johnson j-station rocks and you can download alot of awesome presets. and best of all is the price it is 149 bucks at musicians friend wright now, and i would venture to say that it will stand up to any other amp modeler, and it realy shines for pc recording. tim pate p.s have fun shopping.

Two things:
1)The J-Station is discontinued. You'll be able to find some, but with less optimal support.
2)for only $50 more, you can get a better unit than the J-Station/POD/V-Amp... The Digitech Genesis 3.

I thought that the JStation already smoked the POD, but the Genesis 3 smokes the JStation. Better effects, warp function, very cool clean sounds...

The V-Amp is damn good for it's price, but it can be very noisy.
