I'm going to be buying a new axe very soon. Anybody have any thoughts on a good guitar between $300-$400?

PRS Tremonti SE

I walked out with one for $368 tax and gig bag included.. One of the best deals I have ever gotten...

What do you have currently? It helps to know if there's a sound you're missing or looking for.

the agiles have a great reputation. I would not buy most of the lower line gibson stuff, except for the faded les paul doubecut w/ p-90's. I think those are a great deal. the cheaper fender stuff isnt bad on the whole (per the mexi-tele suggestion). if you like hollow-body guitars, the ibanez artcores are a very good deal.

ibanez noodles signature model
cheap, unique looking, really nice pickups

I think this is one of those "you got to try some out and see for yourself" type of deals. Or at least give us an idea of what you're looking for, like bridge, neck, pick-ups, and so on.

I just got an S101 EGU-34 for $350 w/ hard case, plays like a wet dream.

I recently played the Squier Black & Chrome Tele, and an Epiphone Goth G-400 (SG). They were both really, really good for the money.

I've heard a lot of good news about hte Squier '51 as well.

think about going 2nd hand...

something like a Les Paul Studio ... even if its beat up it will still eat 95% of the new guitars out ther in this price-range

just make sure its pre 97 ... basically all guitars were driven down in quality around this year (made w/ cheaper parts, huge "pools" for pickups instead of individual cavities etc...).

you wont regret it. my 0.02

I played a friend of mine's Carvin. It was nice, but i liked the way the Schecter played better.
