Ok style of music wise we do everything from Tool style ambient metal to electronica/indie, little bit of bluesyness and a little nu rocky kinda shit. It's a big mixture and although you can tell what we do, each song sounds different and requires something a little different.

Since not one person asked you this....... :D

What kind of music do you play?
Clean/country/blues/blues rock/rock/hard rock/metal/nu metal/everything

Well hey now....I asked (walks away pouting) :(

Hey don't sweat it...I'm not going to get worked up about it right now because I'm completely involved with turning my phantom power on and off with impunity and there's nothing the mic can do about it :D

Anyone have any experience with the roland cube 30? Seems like it's a good amp and most of the reviews say it's the shit for it's price n size.

I've got a 30W Cube and I think it's pretty good for the price, the clean channel is OK, though I had to mess about quite a bit to get what I consider to be a good clean sound out of it. As far as the distortion FX goes, I think the rectifier setting is probably the best. Another comment I've heard about this amp is that it tends to sound better with Humbuckers than single coils. I guess it's main competitor in that price range would the Vox which almost certainly won't be as reliable as the Cube (I've heard people say they've seen them dropped down flights of stairs and still carried on working) One thing I don't like about it is that it's not possible to play the amp quietly with the distortion on, even on the queitest setting it would probably kind of loud to play at 2.00 am for example.

The guitar i've ordered has 2 humbuckers so that should be coolio. I just want something that will serve well for a while to use as a studio/practice/gig amp and something that will handle the road obviously.

The Cube and Vox would work, try to find 'em to listen to first. Any tube amp over about 1 (one) watt will be pretty loud by the time the power tubes are singing, but a higher wattage amp is more likely to sound similar at low to mid volume than a low power amp, so if you dial in a tone you like quiet on a 50-100w jobbie, it won't change that much 'till the windows rattle. You will, of course not be getting the best tone out of the amp, but it will be pretty consistant across volume settings.

The Line 6 might be OK, some people like 'em, I haven't been impressed with their lower end stuff.

Some of the best modeler clips I have heard have been from the lowly Behringer Vamps. One of those will be under your budget, you can record direct, and maybe if you have a PA or some sort of keyboard amp you can be heard in other settings?
