I have two computers networked through a Linksys router. I would like to use the old one to play Mp3's through my stereo. I am accessing them through the network, on my new computer. When I play one, it plays through my new computer's sound card. Is there an easy way to select the Mp3's through the network on my new computer, but have them output through the other computer's sound card?

Thanks

Well...this isn't what you're looking for, but it's a good workaround.

Download VNC for Intel/Win32 from http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/

It's a GREAT application that allows you to control the desktop of a remote machine. It's 1000 times better than netmeeting, so don't even go there. Oh, and it's free.

At home I have a little machine (P100, 48MB) acting as a server for our various printers, and I didn't want to bother putting a cumbersome monitor on it....so I use VNC to control it when necessary.

Basically what you do is install VNC on the server (the machine playing the MP3's in this case), then configure it to run as a service. Set the default registry settings (you'll see what I mean) and then set a password for the machine. Then you install VNC on the client machine and run VNC Viewer, which will ask you for the name of the computer to connect to and its password. The desktop of the server machine will appear and vamos, you're set. I'd recommend using an MP3 player without any fancy graphics.

Good luck. If you find a real solution, let us know.
