Phase reversal and phantom power

Hi,
I'm just about to attempt my second ever recording of live drums, and I need the ability to polarity-reverse mics to do this well by all accounts. My desk (mackie 1402VLZ) does not have "Phase reverse" switches, neither does my roland vs840. So I'm thinking about making a polarity-reversal cable or 2. However - the mackie has universal phantom power, which will be on as there are condensor overheads. Am I in danger of screwing up my mics by applying phantom power across a polarity-reversed cable with pins 2 and 3 swapped? Can I use a condensor phase-reversed (eg under snare or outside of kick)- will the phantom power work?
I don't have other pre's, and getting them is pretty much out of the question at the moment.

Thanks,
Steve

If you've got 1 ground 2 hot 3 cold, then swapping 2 and 3 won't upset your phantom power. Phantom power should applied equally to pins 2 and 3, both of which are +48v relative to ground (1).

I have some cables like this for sorting out "inverted" mics.

Don't cross any other pins, and buzz out the lead with a multimeter or continuity tester to make sure that everything is connected correctly, and that no extra connections have been made.

Mike.
